From the Mountains Grew a Writer…
Courtney Bratcher is a freelance writer and middle school teacher living in North Carolina with her husband, Anthony and son, Anthony II. She is a 2012 graduate of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor’s degree in English.
Growing up in the sleepy little town of Pulaski, Virginia nestled deep in the Appalachian Mountains of Southwest Virginia, Courtney escaped the boring and mundane by reading books and writing stories. As a young child she was fascinated by the way the stories she read could transport her from simple country life to worlds filled with mystical creatures and exciting adventures. In elementary school she began to write mystery stories to share with her class. She loved the way her cliffhangers and “to be continued” endings intrigued her classmates and left them begging for more. She knew then that she wanted to be a writer.
By middle school she was reading every story she could get her hands on and began taking higher level Language Arts and English classes. She would beg her mother to take her to the library after school and on weekends and spent hours in the evenings reading the literary treasures she had found.
Once she graduated from high school, she attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro as English major. After a seven year hiatus and marriage, she returned to her studies and transferred to UNC Greensboro. With a full course load and a full-time job, Courtney graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and Summa Cum Laude status.
Currently, Courtney is a middle school Language Arts teacher, a writer and blogger for 5Seven Magazine, and runs her own freelance writing company. In her spare time she likes to work on her own creative writing, curl up with a good book, watch movies, and spend time with family and friends. She plans to publish her first e-book in the coming year and is working on plans for a series of novels.
